Adventures in Scotland

Last week there was a long Bank Holiday weekend and for my friends and me it was the perfect opportunity to pack our bags and go away for a few days.

So on Friday night we took a night coach. The drive was awfully long and not just my bum but my whole body was hurting… After 8 hours of waking up every 30 minutes, annoying people on the back seats and a snoring person next to me we arrived at our eagerly anticipated destination: Edinburgh.

During those two days I stayed there I felt in love with the city, the country site and the people who live there.

I would like to talk about every single detail of my trip but I’m afraid that is not possible… I would write for years and years haha.

But there are a few thinks I just have to tell you about…
First of all the Hostel. We stayed at the “Budget Backpacker” which is part of the “Kick Ass Hostels” and oh my world that hostel was everything I could have asked for. Our room was the 30 bedroom dorm, mixed. At first I was a little bit nervous about that … sleeping with so many other people who you have never met before in the same room. But it was totally fine! The hostel had a kitchen were you could cook your own food or if you didn’t felt like cooking they was a bar were you could get amazing breakfast, lunch or dinner and of course some really nice shots, cocktails and beer.  The people who work there were super nice and friendly and always up for a chat. The atmosphere was just relaxing and careless in the best way possible, it felt like you would live together with people you are friends with.

There are a lot of things to see in Edinburgh and I think I saw most of them while I did a walking tour through the city. But my favourite was the Arthur’s Seat. It is a mountain and the hike to the top was long and exhausting! My legs were hurting like crazy and it was super windy up there. But all those struggles were paid of with the most amazing view of the city and the ocean. If you ever go there the Arthur’s seat should be the first point on your to do list.

One of the main things I learn from staying in Edinburgh is that the Scottish people have a huge drinking culture! They love theirs bars and pubs and just drinking together! On Saturday night my friends and I went out… We stared with some pre drinks in our hostel. Once we were in a proper party mood we went to the closest IRISH pub… the people there were crazy! Everyone was dancing to the live music and it was not possible to have a conversation. The next stop was a bar where we wanted to play some pool… but the people there just started and we didn’t feel like waiting. So we had a shot and went to the next one… On our way we met some Scottish fellows who said they know a good place to go to. We walked with them for like 10 min and then decided to leave them and just hope we find a nice place by ourselves. And so we did. Opium was the name of the next bar. It was a proper rocker bar if you asked me. Some guys on the street gave us a wristband for this bar. With it we got the drinks a little bit cheaper which was an opportunity we gladly took. We didn’t stay long though … maybe 20 minutes and a walk to the toilet. Our final stop was a club named “Bungoo”. The music there wasn’t really my cup of tea… mainly reggae music that night. It was fun at the beginning but it got quite quickly boring. I can’t really remember when we left but I do remember that I was awfully tired, my feet were hurting and I felt asleep as soon as I laid down in my bed.

The shot is called "Chicken Fotus" ...

On Monday it was time to say good bye to our Hostel and Edinburgh. The coach ride back to London wasn’t anything out of the ordinary … I got car sick, we had a stop in Newcastle and when we arrived in London it was raining…
